Brisbane will be looking to get their fifth win of the season on Saturday afternoon when they host North Melbourne at the Gabba. North are still within striking distance of the 8, though they cannot afford any slip-ups from here- and they do have a fair bit of percentage to make up too. They certainly won’t find it easy against a Lions side that has been very competitive over the past couple of months, and they have certainly been a handful for defences with their bold play. Shaun Higgins will miss for the Roos after minor knee surgery, but North will be confident players like Ahern, Clarke, Dumont and McDonald can help cover his absence and continue to push for a Finals spot.

Form

Brisbane (WWWLL) – The Lions have had a very solid block of games over the past month or so- and despite losing their last two they were certainly very competitive. The margin of 42 last week seemed to flatter the Cats somewhat; but when you have someone like Tom Hawkins, who is one of the best key forwards of the past decade, getting silver service from a multiple Brownlow winning midfield……well. There isn’t much the defence can do, is there! Harris Andrews looked to be a touch short of match fitness in his return last week after a horror concussion- but the Lions will be hoping he will be up and about for a match-up against Coleman Medal leader, Ben Brown.

North Melbourne (LWLLW) – It was probably their season-defining victory, and proved once again that Tassie is a fortress for the Roos. North’s midfield, led by Goldstein, Cunnington and Ahern absolutely smashed the Eagles engine room and it gave their forwards ample opportunity to stretch the Weagles web. It was the perfect way to respond to the 66 point thumping they copped at the hands of Collingwood a fortnight ago, where their lack of leg speed was exposed. That still remains a concern, but either way Brad Scott has made this side a mightily competitive one.

What To Expect
Wolfie is expecting an exciting game up at the Gabba on Sunday. In Round 11 the two combined for 228 Total Points, and with perfect conditions expected at the Gabba, it isn’t hard to imagine it will be a case of history repeating itself. Brisbane have been very entertaining, and tough opponents of late- especially at the Gabba- but this is a critical game for North and despite the absence of Shaun Higgins, the Wolf thinks the Roos defence will be able to hold on. Look for them to get off to a fast start, as they try and control the game early.
