Super Saturday concludes with a less than enthusing match-up with a battle between the Saints and Bulldogs- who are placed 15th and 14th respectively. St. Kilda have shown some good signs of improvement over the last month, with wins over Gold Coast, Melbourne and Carlton and they will be confident they match-up well against a Dogs side that has been decimated by injury. Both clubs are dour in their approach to footy, and while it won’t be the prettiest to watch; to Saints and Dogs fans this represents a chance to finally take some positives out of 2018.

St. Kilda (WLWLL) – The margin last week against the rampaging Giants may have been 25 points, but that certainly wouldn’t have been the case if the Saints kicked straight. How on earth Ben Dixon still has a job as Goalkicking Coach is beyond Wolfie, because this side just continues to screw up their hard work with terrible shanks at goal. On the plus side, Jack’s Steven and Steele, Ross and Geary have really lifted over the last month or so, and the side is playing with a much better energy and pressure level than it was at the start of the year. They are just lacking a couple of midfielders, a la Andrew Gaff, who have a bit of polish with the ball in hand.

Western Bulldogs (WLLLL) – They somehow managed to upset Geelong a month ago, but it has been all downhill since then- losing all four games by 44+ points and offering barely a whimper. It’s easy to be critical, but there were just 11 of the 2016 Grand Final side playing against Port last round. The lack of key defenders is a huge cause of concern, but so is the lack of a cohesive forward line and experience across the ground. At least the goal by first-gamer Fergus Greene gave the Footscray faithful something to smile about in what was probably the worst conditions of the year!

Betting Data

2018 Line: St. Kilda- 8-10; Western Bulldogs- 5-13
2018 Over-Under: St. Kilda- 7-11; Western Bulldogs- 8-11

What To Expect

The Wolf is expecting the Doggies to bring a bite of bite early, but it is hard to see them, in such a depleted state, being able to sustain it for the whole game. It is simply impossible to ignore the terrible form they have in 2nd halves- and it is an area the Saints have lifted in recently of late, too (including beaten the Tigers in the second half a fortnight ago). The line of 7.5 will probably drift out, and that looks to be a moral at this rate. St. Kilda should be far too good. Hot tip though punters, this won’t be a pretty one. Tune into the Pies and Swans instead!
