The highlight of Super Saturday comes at the SCG on Saturday evening, when the Swans and the Magpies will be locking wings in front of a raucous crowd. For both these sides, this game is as big as it gets in the context of this incredible close season, and with difficult match-ups looming in the coming rounds, this game is shaping up as the proverbial 8-pointer. The Swans could fall as low as 10th if they don’t win this game; and for Collingwood, given their injuries, the double chance come Finals time would be a welcome relief. Swans supporters were horrified and dumb-struck their beloved Swannies could lose to a Gold Coast side that was missing almost all of their best players, but it got even worse when they got smashed by 43 points at the hands of Essendon last round on the big stage of Friday night footy. With Hurley wearing Buddy like a glove, and their ball movement tedious and sideways, the Swans didn’t even threaten the Bombers and they now come up against a side that beat the same Bombers side by 16. The Pies will be looking to take advantage of their superior speed and attack straight up the guts on the small SCG- and if they can control Buddy, they’ll go a long way towards securing the W.

Form
Sydney (LLWLL) – It’s inconceivable to think that, despite being in the Top 4 for a lot of the season, the Swans are now languishing in 9th and really up against it to make the Finals in their current form. They’ve now lost 4 of their last 5 games, and just one of those sides (Richmond) were higher than them on the ladder. The footy world (Wolf included) expected the proud Bloods culture to shine through against Essendon last week after their horrific loss to the Swans- but they barely let out a whimper. Buddy is sore, the midfield is slow and their ball movement is easy to defend. Could they miss Finals for the first time since 2009?

Collingwood (WWLWL) – Poor old Bucks; he just can’t take a trick with injury- and most of them have been sheer bad luck. There is an injury list of 16 at the moment, and when you look at that you see some genuine A-grade stars- Treloar, de Goey, Elliott and Reid, along with a host of players like Dunn, Wells, Scharenberg and Goldsack who have had sustained success at AFL level. This has coincided with a slight dip in form but it certainly hasn’t diminished the competitiveness of the Pies. They hung on well against the Tigers before being overrun late, and with Grundy, Pendlebury, Adams, Sidebottom and Phillips they still have one of the best engine rooms in the league despite all the injuries.

Stats That Matter
– Collingwood have won 8 of their last 10 matches
– Sydney are 3-6 ATS at home this season
– Scott Pendlebury has had 30+ disposals in 3 of his last 4 matches
– The Pies are 7-3 on the Over/Under in their past 10 games
– Steele Sidebottom is averaging 33 disposals per game in Away fixtures this season
– The Swans have lost 4 of their last 5 games
– Taylor Adams had 31 disposals and 137 Fantasy Points in their last meeting
– The Pies have lost just 4 of their 3rd quarters this season (+80 points)

Betting Data

2018 Over-Under: Sydney- 9-9; Collingwood- 10-8

What To Expect

This one is a real coin flip! Wolfie went hard at the Swans last week, and intimated that if they didn’t get up- that would be it! Well, it is. Sydney is on their knees and Collingwood are primed to put the foot on the throat and keep themselves entrenched in the Top 4. The SCG has not been a happy hunting ground for the Swans and while they need to respond fiercely, Wolfie likes how the Pies match-up against the Swans and is backing their midfield to lead them to victory. Plenty of money to be made on the Player Props from the Pies mids- especially Adams in the absence of Treloar.
