Carlton delay decision on coaching future of David Teague

Blues coach David Teague continues to await his fate at Carlton, with the club delaying its decision on his future.

Key points:

  • The next phase of the review involves consultation between the board and football department regarding the recommendations provided
  • Carlton president Luke Sayers says the club “will take the necessary time required to absorb this review” before making any decisions
  • Blues coach David Teague is in the final season of his three-year contract

The club’s season ended with a 14-point loss to Greater Western Sydney on Saturday night, and Teague said after the match that he expected to learn what his future at Carlton looks like as early as today.

But Carlton released a statement this morning saying it had started the next phase of an independent review of its football department.

The club says it will take all the time it needs to consider the review’s recommendations before making any changes.

“With our AFL season complete, our club is now in a position to fully brief the senior leaders of the football department on the review findings,” president Luke Sayers said.

“This process will commence this week and will involve consultation between the board and football department regarding the recommendations provided.

“As always, I remain committed to continue being open and transparent with our members and supporters regarding any outcomes and decisions that will arise out of this review, including the summarised findings, and as such, once this process is complete, our members will be the first to know.”
