St Kilda looks to 2022 after re-signing two-time best and fairest winner

Seb Ross has joined fellow St Kilda mainstay Jack Billings in rejecting AFL free agency and signing a new deal with the club.

Key points:

  • Ross has re-signed with the Saints for another two years
  • He is a two-time winner of the Trevor Barker Award
  • The Saints missed the finals in 2021, finishing 10th on the ladder

Ross — a two-time best and fairest award winner at the Saints — has re-committed for the next two years.

His contract extension comes in the wake of Billings securing a four-year deal.

Ross was an unrestricted free agent.

He enjoyed another consistent season in 2021, finishing seventh in the count for the Saints’ best and fairest, the Trevor Barker Award.

Saints list manager James Gallagher said Ross had considerable off-field influence at the club.

“A lot of Seb’s work goes unnoticed externally but … we recognise just how important he is to our side on a number of fronts,” Gallagher said in a statement.

“Seb is an honest and genuine guy, who has been a very good player for a number of years.

“More recently, his versatility and willingness to play multiple roles for the team has become a really important aspect of his football.

“He’s played a prominent role in developing the likes of Ryan Byrnes and Jack Bytel during the past few seasons, and we have full faith he’ll continue to do that for many other young Saints.”

Ross has played 160 senior matches for the Saints.

He made 20 appearances for the Saints in the 2021 season, with the club finishing 10th on the ladder after making the finals last year.

Ross has finished in the top 10 of the Trevor Barker Award count every season since 2016.
